That is what the #PopupStar clinical trial awareness contest aims to find out. How can different grassroots community-based events have an impact on awareness for clinical trials as a care option? What methods will help us engage the community? In what ways might we create champions for research long after these events are over? How can we improve root cause issues that affect participation in research such as health literacy?
During the Popup Star competition, diverse teams will compete to design and implement a novel event in their community that is inclusive of all stakeholders: patients, researchers, clinicians, advocacy organizations, academic institutions and healthcare payers. The Popup Star planning team has a hypothesis: if we can get ALL involved - not just in the participation of the events but in the actual planning- we will uncover new insights and find a path forward for grassroots adoption of clinical research as a care option.
We don't plan to just watch from the sidelines! As teams develop their events and plan for long-term attendee engagement they will be asked to submit videos of their work and progress that will be edited into web episodes so that the greater clinical trial community can share in the process and get excited about what we may learn.
The events will take place over a ten day period in April of 2018 and 3 finalists will be invited to participate in a live broadcast finale in the summer of 2018 in New York City where one will be crowned the winner- but in the end we all win when more people have access to another viable option for managing their health.
This is your invitation to be part of an all-in, community-driven movement to bring the value of research to ALL so: get involved - be a sponsor - join a team attend an event - and share the hope that clinical research participation brings.
